TURNTABLE

And another turntable made of an old record player, see bottom

A turntable for manuel power only for indoor use costs about 600£ and for outdoor 800£. What about to produce one yourself for only 5£?
We need a round dish off plastic. You determine the size yourself. It depends of the size of your locomotives. We make a round track of a aluminiumstick, about 2 m length, 25 mm broad and 3 mm of thickness. I have made a cross with a 3 mm threadfstick to make it exactly round and I have bent it as shown on the drawing round a cementtube. The round track is founded in concrete in the bottom of the dish. Remember to make a hole in the bottom for the rainwater.

Now to the turnable part. See the drawing.

Now the turntable has come out in the garden. Behind the turntable you can see the underpass of the united Cross Railway and the Steinbeck Railway. How will the turntable get the current? Just two thin soft cables in the middle. Then take care not always turn at the same direction.

The dish not included, the turntable has cost about 10 £ to the wheels and aluminiumprofiles.
I have seen in an American homepage, that foamplast stands for the winter outdoor, so I have made a roundhouse of this materiel. Also the new stationbuildings are made of foamplast. Now we will see if it`s true that it can stand the snow. I will tell you next year. Depottrack with watercrane and coalbox are made of junk. More do it yourself on the danish pages.

Record players belong to the past. Why not use it as a turntable for some years on Your gardenrailway before giving it to the garbage collector? This one is hand driven. Surely, You can also use an electric motor if You want it so. The most difficult in this project is to place the turn pin execatly in the middle of the dish. You are welcome to write for further informations.
